The River ANNAN, the new recording by ANNAN (Ravi Annan Topp Marsolek) is Now Available on Bandcamp and global streaming services! Here's the link: https://theriverannan.bandcamp.com/album/the-river-annan. The album will be available as a CD in the next month or so. Take a moment to listen to this soulful original music and feel free to drop ANNAN a note through the "contact" link on the Bandcamp page. Ravi (who also performs with Drum Brothers) began recording the project at Standing Wave Studio in the summer of 2024. The year plus labor of love and recording, editing, mixing, and mastering came to fruition at the end of November 2025. Bravo Ravi!
Willow: Diary of a Mountain Lion ~ a film by Colin Ruggiero (Also a past Drum Brothers member) with original music by Drum Brothers bandleader, Matthew Marsolek, recently premiered on PBS's Nature. The film documents a unique decade-long mountain lion study which used a vast network of over 200 trail cameras scattered throughout Montana’s Sapphire Mountains to piece together the story of a female mountain lion named Willow and her kittens. IN-PERSON CLASSES ($16-20/class sliding scale) at Free Cycles in Missoula
LEVEL 1 Beginning - A 5-class series taught by Matthew Marsolek on alternating Tuesday nights from 7:45 - 9:00 pm at Free Cycles in Missoula (732 S 1st St W). The dates will be on the following Tuesdays: Jan 6 & 20, Feb 3 & 17, and March 3. This series will continue on where the last class left off in December. We'll review all the basics of hand drumming from the ground up, including: the techniques and the tones of the drum, rhythm awareness, drum language, and we'll dive into beginning to intermediate rhythms in the West African style. (Let us know if you're a new drummer interested in joining this class and we'll send you some videos to get you caught up😊). Participants will receive video and mp3 links and simple charts of the rhythms covered in class. Plenty of drums will be available. Please note that because of scheduling issues at Free Cycles, two classes of this series will be on Monday nights. Sorry about that. (The issue has been fixed for subsequent series)

LEVEL 2 Ongoing - Taught by Tracy Topp, this 5-class series will be on alternating Tuesday nights from 6:15 - 7:30 pm at Free Cycles in Missoula (732 S 1st St W). The dates will be on the following Tuesdays: Jan 6 & 20, Feb 3 & 17, and March 3. This intermediate series is for those who've taken at least two beginning class series. A familiarity with the tones and techniques of West African hand drumming is recommended. Classes will include: techniques and the tones of the drum, rhythm awareness, drum language, and beginning rhythms. And well learn new intermediate ensemble rhythms in the West African style. Please note that because of scheduling issues at Free Cycles, two classes of this series will be on Monday nights. Sorry about that. (The issue has been fixed for subsequent series)
LEVEL 3 Ongoing - A 5-class series taught by Matthew Marsolek on alternating Tuesday nights from 6:00 - 7:15 pm at Free Cycles in Missoula (732 S 1st St W). The dates will be on the following Tuesdays: Jan 6 & 20, Feb 3 & 17, and March 3. This series will cover more advanced patterns, arrangements, and solo phrases and techniques. Students should be very familiar with the tones and techniques of hand drumming, know a repertoire of West African rhythms, and be able to pick up new patterns quickly.Please note that because of scheduling issues at Free Cycles, two classes of this series will be on Monday nights. LEVEL 1 Beginning - A 5-class series of classes on alternating Tuesday nights from 6:30 pm - 7:45 pm MST. (Matthew and Tracy will be teaching in-person classes in Missoula every other Tuesday)
SCHEDULE: The classes will run on the following Tuesdays: Jan 13 & 27, Feb 10 & 24 and March 10.
This will be an ongoing level 1 series continuing on where the class left off in December. The rhythms will be fresh and fun for those who've drummed with us before. We'll review the techniques and the tones of the drum, rhythm awareness and drum language, and we'll dive into beginning to intermediate rhythms in the West African style.
